Drones have been legal to fly in South Africa since 1 July 2015. If you are flying your drone as a hobby and not for commercial gain you may fly without an RPL (Remote Pilot’s License), however you do need to follow the strict Civil Aviation Regulations. For further info on rules and regulations please see check the CAA Website: CAA Website

A lot of people think that drones are hard to fly, but the truth is, they really are not. The modern technology built into DJI drones makes them extremely easy to fly and maneuver. The latest drones have automatic takeoff, autonomous waypoint flying and automatic landing. Electronic gyros keep the drone stable even in relatively windy conditions, so even if you take your hands off of the controls the aircraft will hover in its position. Should you fly your drone out of range, it will climb to a height defined by yourself, and return and land to its takeoff position. When your battery level gets to a certain point, the drone will decide it needs to return home by itself, and auto land.

DJI tips for beginners link

Average battery life is around 30 minutes per battery. This is dependent on wind and other factors but you should get 30 minutes in perfect conditions.

You require an RPL (Remote Pilot License) and an ROC (Remote Operating Certificate) to fly your drone commercially and charge for your services. If you are doing it as a hobby you do not need the above but need to follow the CAA drone rules.  CAA Website

No, DJI Drones are not waterproof. Refrain from flying in rain, even if light, as it will affect the motor.

The DJI Mavic Mini range is a great start! It is lightweight (249g), easy to fly and the camera really packs a punch. It is the ideal place to start if you are wanting to purchase your first drone.

Although DJI drones are able to fly through some pretty strong winds it is not recommended, especially if you are a beginner. Check what level wind resistance your drone can take before sending it out in gusty conditions.

No you don’t, the drone has a built in GPS so you do not need to be connected to the wifi or have cellular data in order to fly.

Make sure you are logged into your DJI account, if that still does not work then try putting your phone on airplane mode before taking off, sounds odd but it works. Please bear in mind the local rules while doing this though.

Each DJI Certified Refurbished Product:

- Undergoes full functionality testing, where any defective modules are replaced

- Is put through a thorough cleaning and inspection process

- Is repackaged (including appropriate manuals, parts) and new boxes

- Is placed into a Final Quality Assurance inspection before being offered for sale

- Undergo the same basic testing procedures and are assessed with the same technical guidelines as new DJI products

- May have slight signs of wear, such as minor scratches. Returns due to aesthetic conditions that do not affect product performance are not accepted.
